Description
Fused Silica ducts are used primarily for delivery of the laser diode beams, while high thermal conductivity of Sapphire makes it an absolutely essential part of the handpiece for IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) system or a highenergy long-pulse laser with contact cooling. Both rectangular Sapphire blocks and ducts are used in either IPL or laser handpieces. Ducts are primarily used in the spectral region away from the peak of flashlamp emission, where without condensing effect light fluence will not be able to reach therapeutic threshold.
Light ducts must be designed for a given application and concrete geometry and angular spectrum of the light source. Source parameters and desired output characteristics are entered into Monte-Carlo model to optimize the design for the highest possible transmission.
